Abstract: The presented research introduces molecular alloying in van der Waals (vdW) crystals, establishing a novel approach for tuning magnetic and electronic states through controllable valence changes. This approach enhances the versatility of vdW materials, enabling unique applications in magnetoelectronics by allowing substantial and reversible shifts in properties such as electrical conductivity and magnetization. These shifts, driven by mild external stimuli, could lead to devices with energy-efficient, on-demand switching capabilities in fields like data storage, sensing, and spintronics. The successful demonstration of stimuli-responsive valence changes in vdW crystals represents a foundational advancement, potentially enabling the integration of such materials into layered architectures for multifunctional, reconfigurable technologies.
