Abstract: This paper investigates the impact of residual-stress-based flux barriers on the performance of permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) by using finite element analysis. In contrast to conventional cutout-based flux barriers, which improve magnetic anisotropy but compromise mechanical strength, residual-stress-based flux barriers improve structural integrity. Their influence on the magnetic properties of the machine is investigated in this paper. This approach enhances the mechanical stability of the rotor enabling reliable operation at high speeds.
