Quantum criticality and dimensional reduction in the sawtooth chain material atacamite
2025JCNS Workshop 2025: Trends and Perspectives in Neutron Scattering. Quantum Materials: Theory and Experiments, TutzingTutzing, Germany, 7 Oct 2025 - 9 Oct 20252025-10-072025-10-09
Quantum magnets with geometrical frustration stand out due to their highly degenerate ground states and their susceptibility to be tuned by applying pressure or magnetic field. Such tuning can lead to quantum phase transitions from ordered to disordered states, or vice versa, with the emergent quantum critical points (QCPs) determining the deformed entropy landscapes in the respective phase diagrams. [...]

Quantum criticality and dimensional reduction in the frustrated sawtooth chain compound atacamite
2025International Conference on Highly Frustrated Magnetism, HFM, TorontoToronto, Canada, 25 May 2025 - 30 May 20252025-05-252025-05-30
We present evidence for the presence of a field-induced quantum critical point (QCP) at 21.9(1) T (H || c axis) in the frustrated quantum magnet atacamite Cu$_2$Cl(OH)$_3$, a mineral which we have recently identified as a material realization of sawtooth chains [J ~ 336 K (basal-basal), J' ~ 102 K (basal-apical)]. Residual interchain couplings lead to long-range antiferromagnetic order in atacamite below $T_\mathrm{N}$ = 8.9(1) K. [...]

Quantum criticality and dimensional reduction of a sawtooth chain material: a case study
2025APS Global Physics Summit, AnaheimAnaheim, USA, 16 Mar 2025 - 21 Mar 20252025-03-162025-03-21
Quantum magnets with geometrical frustration stand out due to their highly degenerate ground states and their susceptibility to be tuned regarding their effective dimensionality by applying pressure or magnetic field [1]. Such tuning can lead to quantum phase transitions from ordered to disordered states, or vice versa, with the emergent quantum critical points (QCPs) determining the deformed entropy landscapes in the respective phase diagrams. Virtual experiments in live mode by running digital twins of MLZ instruments using VITESS
2025The International Conference on Neutron Scattering, ICNS, Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the last day at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in nearby Lund, SwedenBella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the last day at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in nearby Lund, Sweden, Denmark, 6 Jul 2025 - 10 Jul 20252025-07-062025-07-10
In the beginning, neutron instrument simulation software was mainly used to optimize instrument designs in terms of high flux and favorable beam properties at the sample position. Then it was extended to virtual experiments by adding sample and detector in the simulation. [...]
