Abstract: In this thesis, the influence of external parameters during the processing procedures on the active layer morphology of the polymer:fullerene PTB7:PCBM bulk heterojunction system are thoroughly investigated. It is ascertained that the power conversion efficiency can be easily manipulated by varying these external parameters (a slight chemical modification of the used polymer, the usage of host solvent, or an additional solvent treatment). The focus of the present work is to elucidate the relationship between the active layer morphology and the corresponding power conversion efficiency.
