Abstract: The intermediate mixed state (IMS) in superconducting niobium is a prominent example of vortex matter beyond the type-I/type-II dichotomy. It features a non-monotonous vortex interaction, which results in the formation of vortex clusters and an emergent magnetic domain structure. In this thesis, we present an extensive study of the temperature driven IMS transition, using (very) small angle neutron scattering, neutron grating interferometry and molecular dynamics simulations.
