WHAT NEUTRONS CAN DO FOR YOU:THE SINGLE CRYSTAL NEUTRON DIFFRACTOMETER BIODIFF AT THE HEINZ MAIER-LEIBNITZ ZENTRUM
Enzyme Engineering Conference, HelsingorHelsingor, Denmark, 20 Oct 2025 - 24 Oct 20252025-10-202025-10-24
Neutrons are scattered from the nuclei and x-rays are scattered from the electrons of the atoms in a protein crystal. This renders these two scattering probes as being complementary to each other. [...]

Development of a new Macromolecular Instrument at the High Brilliance Neutron Source in Jülich
MLZ User Meeting 2025, MünchenMünchen, Germany, 3 Dec 2025 - 4 Dec 20252025-12-032025-12-04
Neutron protein crystallography requires a highly brilliant beam in order to measure very small biological single crystals, which typically measure between 0.01 and 1 mm³. Additionally, these crystals have a large unit cell size, which may be as large as 200 Å in at least one dimension. [...]

New Insights into the Mechanisms for Multiferroicity in Rare Earth Orthoferrites
33rd Annual Meeting of the German Crystallographic Society, DGK2025, HannoverHannover, Germany, 10 Mar 2025 - 13 Mar 20252025-03-102025-03-13 [10.34734/FZJ-2025-05391]
Magnetic rare-earth ortheferrites of the REFeO3 type (RE = rare earth element) are model systems for studies and theoretical considerations on magnetic structures in sixties of the last century [e.g. Ber68], have regained significant interest in the last decade [...]

Mechanisms for Multiferroicity in Rare Earth Orthoferrites: An Overview
International Conference on Neutron Scattering 2025, ICNS2025, Copenhagen (Denmark) and Lund (Sweden)Copenhagen (Denmark) and Lund (Sweden), Denmark, 6 Jul 2025 - 10 Jul 20252025-07-062025-07-10
Rare-earth orthoferrites, RFeO₃(R=rare earth element), have been model systems for studies and theoretical considerations of magnetic structures since the 1960s [Whi69]. They have regained considerable interest in the last decade due to their complex multiferroic properties, which make them potential candidates for modern applications, e.g. [...]

Polarized Neutron Diffractometer POLI at MLZ: Upgrades and Perspectives
International Conference on Neutron Scattering, ICNS, CopenhagenCopenhagen, Denmark, 6 Jul 2025 - 10 Jul 20252025-07-062025-07-10
POLI is a hot neutron two-axis diffractometer at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ), Germany, which uses spin-polarized neutrons for magnetic studies in particular. The instrument is used, for instance, to study complex crystal and magnetic structures, to reconstruct magnetization densities in the unit cell, and to explore phase diagrams of materials via multiparameter studies. [...]

Magnetism of the distorted kagome material clinoatacamite Cu$_2$Cl(OH)$_3$
Munich Quantum Matter Days, MunichMunich, Germany, 27 Oct 2025 - 31 Oct 20252025-10-272025-10-31
Structurally, the mineral clinoatacamite Cu$_2$Cl(OH)$_3$ is closely related to the kagome material herbertsmithite Zn$_3$CuCl$_2$(OH)$_6$. In clinoatacamite, however, the kagome motif of Cu sites is embedded into a low-symmetry crystal structure, which causes a distortion of the kagome plane as well as different site symmetries for the kagome Cu sites. [...]
